My approach in working with children and adolescents depends on the personality of the child. Sometimes the younger client is comfortable discussing issues in individual or group therapy, and other times, a more structured, behavioral approach is developed. I play a very active, direct role in the therapy process. Regardless of the treatment format, I strive to create a warm, supportive environment with children and teens; a place where they will be willing to explore their beliefs and behaviors and identify healthier alternatives.
Parent Involvement: Parents are the most important adults in a child's life and I welcome their involvement. I often recommend family therapy in conjunction with therapy for children. When there are behavioral and academic issues, parent involvement is critical in creating intervention plans that are practical and reasonable given the home situation.
